While constitutionally criminal justice is a federal matter, at this time the federal government is responding to requests made by municipalities for decriminalization of drug possession for personal use rather than applying a Canada wide policy.
As a result, FAR has asked Toronto Councilors to follow the lead of the Toronto Board of Health and other public health experts, addiction physicians, chiefs of police and those most affected by our harmful drug policies and make or support a motion of Toronto City Council that requests the federal government to decriminalize drug possession for personal use in Canada or at least in the City of Toronto. If you live in Toronto please feel free to send a copy of our letter to your councilor in support. If you request and get a meeting we would be happy to attend virtually with you. Just let us know! Read More
