Terms of Use

Families for Addiction Recovery (FAR) provides content and services to users through its website located at www.farcanada.org (the “Site”) (collectively, such services, including any new features, and the Site, are referred to as the “Services”), subject to these Terms of Use. In addition, when using certain services, you shall be subject to any additional terms applicable to such services that may be posted on the Site from time to time, including, without limitation, the Privacy Policy.

Everything on the Site is copyrighted and may not be used without the written consent of FAR unless otherwise stipulated in these Terms of Use or on the Site. Your use of materials on the Site may also infringe the rights of third parties.

Images of people or other images on the Site are either the property of, or used with permission by, FAR. Your use of these images is prohibited unless stipulated otherwise on the Site. Any unauthorized use of the images may violate copyright laws or other laws.

FAR uses reasonable efforts to ensure the information provided on the Site is accurate and up to date, but we make no representations in that regard. FAR assumes no liability or responsibility for any errors or omissions regarding the content on the Site.

By your use of the Services, you agree that FAR shall not be responsible or liable for, and to release and hold FAR harmless from, any damage or loss arising out of or in connection with, directly or indirectly, your use of the Services. In particular, by your use of the Site, you acknowledge and agree that the information provided on the Site is for informational and educational purposes only, is not tailored to the needs of a specific individual but is rather provided as a general guide only and is not intended as medical or professional advice. FAR does not warrant the accuracy, reliability, completeness or timeliness of any information or other content contained or referred to in the Site or in any linked website. Any such information or content is not intended or implied to be a substitute for medical or other professional advice or treatment.

Any message submitted or posted to the Stories of Recovery, Memorials, Community Blogs, or Message Boards features of the Site is public, and FAR may use such messages in furtherance of its purposes. By posting any messages or other content, you hereby grant FAR a nonexclusive, irrevocable license to copy, display, distribute, store, modify and otherwise use such content in connection with the operation of the Services or the promotion, advertising or marketing thereof, in any form. You are solely responsible for the content and other materials you post on or through the Services. You agree not to post any content that you did not create or that you do not own.  You agree that such messages will not be offensive, obscene, defamatory, discriminatory, untruthful, misleading, unlawful or otherwise inappropriate. Although FAR may from time to time monitor or review postings, chats, transmissions and the like located in the Features, FAR is under no obligation to do so and assumes no responsibility or liability arising from the content of any such locations nor for any error, inaccuracy, defamation, omission or falsehood contained in any information within such locations in the Features.

You are required to register with FAR in order to access and use certain of the Services. If you choose to register for any of the Services, you agree to provide and maintain true, accurate, current and complete information about yourself as prompted by the relevant Services registration form. Registration data and certain other information about you are protected and governed by FAR’s Privacy Policy. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and account, if any, and are fully responsible for any and all activities that occur under your password or account. You agree to immediately notify FAR of any unauthorized use of your password or account or any other breach of security. You agree that FAR, in its sole discretion, may suspend or terminate your account (or any part thereof) or use of the Services and/or modify or remove and discard any content within the Services, for any reason, including if FAR believes that such content is inappropriate or that you have violated or acted inconsistently with the letter or spirit of these Terms of Use. You agree that any termination by FAR of your access to the Services may be effected without prior notice, and that FAR may immediately deactivate or delete your account and all related information and files in your account. FAR may establish general practices and limits concerning use of the Services, including without limitation the maximum period of time that data or other content will be retained within the Site. You agree that FAR has no responsibility or liability for the deletion or failure to store any data or other content maintained or transmitted within the Services. FAR reserves the right to terminate accounts that are inactive for an extended period of time.

Further, the Site may provide links to other sites and resources on the Web. FAR has no control over such sites and resources and is not responsible for such sites and resources or the content of such sites or resources. In particular, by your use of the Site, you agree that FAR shall not be responsible or liable for, and to release and hold FAR harmless from, any damage or loss arising out of or in connection with, directly or indirectly, your use of or reliance on any content or resource available on any such linked site or resource.

FAR reserves the right to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, all or any part of the Services with or without notice.

FAR may at any time revise these Terms of Use by updating this posting. Users of the Services are bound by any such revisions and should therefore periodically visit this page.

Comment Policy Guidelines

Article and Blog Comments

Comments submitted to FAR for posting on our website (the “Site”) will generally be reviewed by a moderator before they are posted. We will do our best to review submitted comments in a timely manner. FAR reserves the right to reject any comment based solely on our interpretation of these guidelines or otherwise. Not all submitted comments will be approved and posted.

General Guidelines for Comments

  • Stay on-topic and remain focused on policy, strategy, research and practice. Discuss the specific news or blog topic on that page, and stay within the general bounds of the purpose of the Site.
  • Contribute something new to the discussion. Add a unique point of view, a constructive argument, a thoughtful question or observation or additional information.
  • Keep it professional, courteous, and polite. Do not post profanity, personal attacks, or other inappropriate comments. Do not engage in an emotional fight or argument with others who have posted comments.
  • Observe the word limit, which is 250 words.
  • Proof your comments. Once submitted, comments cannot be edited by the author or by FAR moderators.
  • All user-contributed content is the sole responsibility of the person who provided it.
