Province passes compassionate intervention act, allowing for involuntary treatment
The potential for good and harm are both evident in this new Saskatchewan legislation allowing involuntary treatment of patients who have lost the ability to help themselves start the recovery process from severe SUD. Families can apply for a judge’s warrant for assessment at a Compassionate Intervention Assessment Center, or law enforcement officers can refer directly if the patient is a risk to themselves or others. Finally there is an avenue for families to intervene in the terrible downward spiral of addiction in a loved one!
