In a recent survey, two-thirds of Canadians thought addiction was one of the top three most important issues facing Canada and 30% of Canadians said they were personally impacted by addiction. There are three ways you can get involved:
Become a Friend of FAR
By becoming a Friend of FAR you support:
- compassionate, evidence-based treatment for those struggling with addiction;
- families affected by addiction;
- recovery for every Canadian struggling with addiction;
- research regarding addiction; and
- the end of stigma.
Your support also adds weight to our voice when we speak with members of the medical and law enforcement communities and government officials regarding the impact of addiction and stigma on our loved ones and our families and the need to break down the barriers to compassionate, evidence-based treatment.
As a Friend of FAR you will receive our newsletters, invitations to our events and have the opportunity to participate in our surveys.
We keep the names of the Friends of FAR in confidence.
Your donation supports FAR in our mission to support families and protect persons, particularly teenagers and young adults, with SUD by advocating for compassionate, evidence-based treatment, reducing harms, research and ending stigma.
You can help us make long-term recovery for every Canadian with SUD a reality.
There are two ways to donate.
Donate Online via CanadaHelps.org
By clicking on the link below to CanadaHelps.org, you can make a one-time donation or arrange for monthly donations online. You can also donate securities and mutual funds, which can be the most tax efficient way to give. You may also designate that your donation is honour of, or in memory of, a loved one.
If you would prefer to make a donation directly to FAR, which eliminates any administration fees, please mail your donation cheque to:
Families for Addiction Recovery
Suite 200, 100 Consilium Place,
Scarborough, ON M1H 3E3
If you are interested in making a gift of securities directly to FAR, which reduces administration fees, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Peer-to-Peer Parent Coaching
FAR is looking for parents who are willing to be a parent coach to parents struggling with their child’s addiction. All volunteers will be interviewed. The commitment of a parent coach, once training is complete, would be about an hour a week. We also recommend that volunteers read “Beyond Addiction: How Science and Kindness Help People Change” by Jeffrey Foote, Carrie Wilkens, and Nicole Kosanke prior to training. If you would like to volunteer, please contact us.
Other Volunteering Opportunities
FAR is looking for volunteers who have expertise in the following fields:
- Public Relations;
- Marketing Communications.
We also need persons in each province and territory who are interested in developing our Friends of FAR and furthering our mission.
If you would like to volunteer, please contact us.
